Alien Lounge Music

Anode Glow performs at the Wetlands Dancehall October 28th

Drum and Bass/ambient, rock-rave music is what drummer Don Henze calls the music he performs with “Anode Glow” keyboardist Jj Kidder. Mr. Kidder on the other hand compares it to new school jazz -- that isn’t academic. “It’s alien lounge music” says Stacey Lawless who sells books at Borders in Chapel Hill. “Jacked-up hill-billy electronica,” says Jon Pardue, lead singer of Puritan Rodeo Show.

But whatever it’s called, Anode Glow’s music has an energy that excites audiences – taking them on an unexpected journey through an adventurous blend of modern musical styles.

DJ Marcus Mark, Promoter of Fuse's Electronic Bistro night, who put the band on in between DJ’s comments, “It’s really cool to see a couple of guys playing live, the kind of music we spin.” The DJ continues, “People are really into it, so I'm looking forward to having them back."

At the Electronic Bistro show, Anode Glow’s set incorporated a wide range of dynamics. Beginning with an “alien lounge” ambient groove tune, “Uh Huh” Mr. Kidder’s melodic keyboard lines flowed mysteriously over pulsating bass lines that connected solidly with Mr. Henze’s proficient fast paced drumming.

Towards the end of the set, during the song “Tickelish” Anode Glows engines explodewith an all out techno assault -- Henze moving around the drums at break neck

speeds and Kidder crouched down behind his keys as if facing hurricane blast winds. Suddenly all is calm but it’s only the eye of the storm – with the duo pondering their next move – a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” And just when it couldn’t get any crazier, it does.

Perhaps it’s this adventurous quality of the band’s approach to performing that Mr. Kidder refers to as “new school jazz”. “We think it’s really cool that people have enough of an open mind to come and give us a listen,” says Kidder. Henze agrees, “I come down from New York specifically to do these shows. I feel there’s something special going on…”

Expect the unexpected at Anode Glow's performance on Saturday night, October 28th at Wetlands Dancehall.

Anode Glow will be performing with: Puritan Rodeo Show, Sentyu, Greg Klaiber's Grabass Revue.
